I offer 20 minute mini photo sessions at a park in my Littleton neighborhood. The park gets great views of the Colorado foothills at sunset. I offer these mini sessions on weeknights in the evenings about 30 minutes before sunset. You can book a mini session for during the spring, summer, and winter. I don’t offer them in the fall because that is my busiest season for full photo sessions and the park where I meet clients has mostly evergreen trees so it doesn’t get great fall color anyway.
I want to point out that there is a playground right next to the field where I like to meet clients. This can be hard for young kids to see and know that they can’t play until after the photo session. Use your best judgement knowing that before booking your session. I have only had one or two kids that really melted down when their parents said they couldn’t play until after their pictures. Most of the time I can redirect the kids into playing games and having fun during our 20 minute session so that the playground is a great “treat” at the end.
Here are some examples of what the park looks like at different times of the year.
Spring (March, April, and May):
Spring in Colorado is extremely hard to predict! It can be sunny and in the 70’s or snowy and cold. The park where I meet clients is also at the top of a hill so it catches the wind a bit more than usual. I always keep an eye on the weather leading up to our session and will be in touch if we need to reschedule.
Summer (June and July):
Summer is always one of my favorite times of the year for any and all photo sessions. The weather is usually more predictable, and people can wear shorts or cute summer dresses. Everything is green and lush! I know that with sunset being later in the summertime it can be hard to book a sunset session if you have young children, but I do try to make all of my sessions fun for kiddos so if they are up a bit later than their normal bedtime, it is a really fun time for them and makes them feel “special” for having a night out later than usual.
Winter (November, December, January, and February):
Winter isn’t usually everyone’s favorite time for photos, but snow sessions can be really beautiful! Since the mini session is only 20 minutes, people are typically warm enough with a light jacket or heavy sweaters. If we meet in November, there is a chance for a bit of fall color still around on the bushes near the park too. Or it could be snowy—-ha! You never know!
