January and February is normally the “slow time” for photographers. The holidays are over and it is cold outside so no one is thinking about scheduling family photos. After almost 10 years of being a photographer I have realized that I can use that time to learn new techniques, take courses, and meet other photographers. When Sarah from Seen and Hurd Photography advertised on social media that she was hosting a maternity workshop for a very reasonable cost, I jumped on the opportunity.
Four other photographers and myself met at the Denver Photo Collective studio in Lakewood. I had always heard that this studio is amazing, but I hadn’t been there yet. It gets so much natural light and is such a gorgeous place for a photo session! I loved it!
We had two models, Ambri and Amanda. Ambri is due with her first baby (a girl) in about a month. Amanda is due with her FIFTH baby (a boy) in a month as well. They were both so sweet and did great. Neither had ever had maternity photos done so this was a treat for them. They both had their hair and make-up done by Mekinzie Carmen. The dresses were by Belly Baby Wear. I loved how flowy the dresses were and made the models feel like goddesses.
We also had 2 different backdrops—-Party Petals and Born with Dreams. The pink floral backdrop was stunning (especially with the pink couch and fuchsia dress). The boho dreamcatchers that Sandra brought for the other backdrop were stunning. Her mother hand crochets them and can be used for so many things—-home decor, weddings, etc.
I do not have a studio of my own so these types of photos are not my norm, but it was so freeing to be creative for a morning! Here are a few of my favorite shots from my morning:
